Motivate my teen

Interested to help your teen?

Would your teen like to improve their grades? Lose some weight? Cut down on dozens of hours’ screen time? It’s a special kind of torture for parents to see their kids doubt themselves so early in life.

Kids need to be over 14 to participate

Bret Treasure and Ben Raphael run a behaviour change business called Stake Something.

It turns out that small financial rewards are an effective motivator for kids. You (the parent/grandparent) put up the reward, the kid promises to take weekly actions for 10 weeks and any week they keep their promise, they win the reward. This is often long enough to build a habit, so that a reward is no longer needed.

Now this is a very effective way to change behaviour, but NOTHING HAPPENS unless the kid wants to change their behaviour.

And it might be that you are the right person to invite your kid to play that motivation game. If so, scroll down – fill in the form and let’s get the show on the road.

But

…for most parents, this is a sensitive area, and an alternative strategy is to outsource the ‘do you want help self-motivating’ conversation. As coaches, as third-parties, we have that conversation for you. Voice or text.

Then, if your kid is interested, we debrief you, and set up a motivation game which you finance with a weekly incentive.

How do you get your kid to agree to discuss self-motivation?

Let them know you bought them a call with a motivation coach. That way, 9 times out of 10, they actually call us. Tell them they can use the call any way they like. You’re gonna have to be brave here, because there is a chance they won’t call, or won’t be interested in the self-motivation that you have in mind… So there’s a risk you’ll burn some money.

But the upside is an empowered kid who’s building a healthy habit. So up to you.

Motivational call & debrief

We schedule a call with your teen and speak to them for as long as it takes to give them a positive motivational experience.

Then we call you and, if the teen has given permission, we debrief you on the conversation.
