The motivation game

Stake Something is the motivation game. You play it to motivate yourself to do stuff. Like regular exercise. Like dieting. Like ‘me time’, learning a language – anything you want to do on a daily or weekly basis.

It’s a game you play against yourself. You set up a weekly promise in the app, then put some money at stake. Whatever amount you think will motivate you. And then you start. If you take the actions you promise, all good. You keep your money, you’ve motivated yourself and you keep going. But if one week you miss your target or forget to report, you forfeit the money you staked. Ouch.

Question: how many weeks’ motivation did you get? Because at this point you have two options:

1. Throw in the towel – no problem – you got some motivation out of playing the game.
2. Keep playing the game until you get into the habit of exercising (or whatever). Takes a couple of months or so.

For most people, the threat of losing money is so strong, they never lose a cent. Free motivation and a new lifestyle.
